Welcome to TheCoverVerse. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of thecoververse.com (the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

1. What TheCoverVerse Is

TheCoverVerse is a catalog and reference site for physical book editions, focused on cover art and edition details for collectors, primarily in fantasy and science fiction. We provide browsing, comparison, and (for registered users) shelf-tracking features.

2. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You're responsible for all activity under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately through the contact form.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to scrape, bulk-download, or reverse-engineer the catalog data beyond normal browsing
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Site's operation, including through automated bots that circumvent our access controls
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Upload or share content through the bookshelf or gallery features that is unlawful, infringing, or abusive
  • Upload photos depicting another identifiable person without their consent
  • Upload sexually explicit, graphic, hateful, or otherwise objectionable content
  • Upload photos you do not own or do not have the right to share publicly
  • Upload spam, unrelated images, or content that doesn't depict your own book collection

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

Our content. The Site's design, catalog structure, original text, and organization are owned by TheCoverVerse. You may not copy or redistribute this in bulk without permission.

Cover images and book data. Book cover images and bibliographic data displayed on the Site belong to their respective publishers, rights holders, and sources, including Open Library. We display this content for reference and comparison purposes. We make no claim of ownership over cover art or publisher-provided data.

Catalog accuracy. We aim for accuracy but cannot guarantee that every listed edition, cover, or detail is complete or error-free. The catalog is not represented as exhaustive; earliest-indexed editions are not guaranteed to be the first or original printing.

Your content. If you create bookshelves or other user content, you retain ownership, but you grant us a license to display it on the Site as you've configured your privacy settings.

Gallery photos. If you upload a photo to the gallery, you retain ownership of it, but you grant TheCoverVerse a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and resize that photo publicly on the Site, including in connection with the edition pages it's tagged to.

Gallery photos are reviewed before they appear on the Site. Once approved, they are public and visible to all Site visitors. By uploading, you represent that:

  • You own the photo or otherwise have the right to upload and publicly share it
  • The photo does not infringe anyone's copyright
  • If another identifiable person appears in the photo, you have their consent to publicly post it
  • The photo does not violate these Terms' content restrictions

We reserve the right to remove any uploaded photo at our sole discretion, for any reason, including suspected infringement, inappropriate content, or a valid takedown request, without prior notice.

5. Affiliate Disclosure

TheCoverVerse is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. Some links on this Site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through them, at no extra cost to you.

6. Copyright Complaints (DMCA)

If you believe a photo or other content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice through the contact form including:

  • A description of the copyrighted work you believe was infringed
  • The URL or location of the allegedly infringing content on the Site
  • Your contact information
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you're authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner

We will review valid notices and remove infringing content in accordance with applicable law.

7. Third-Party Links

The Site contains links to third-party retailers and services (such as Amazon, Bookshop.org, and AbeBooks). We aren't responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of these third-party sites.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that catalog information is fully accurate or current.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TheCoverVerse and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site, including purchasing decisions made based on catalog information.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at our discretion, including for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the updated version with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
